Out In Public Hat
My Darling Husband gets cold ears out in his garage and since he spends most of his free time in there this is a problem. I made him one of the popular hats with ear flaps on Ravelry. This did a great job of keeping his ears warm, but, to put it politely, made him look distinctly peculiar. I was horrified to find him wearing it in the front garden in full view of people walking by. Hence the need for a hat that was fit to be seen in public.
This hat uses fisherman’s rib to make the band double thickness for snug ears, then normal rib for the rest of the hat to prevent the rest of the head being too hot.
Instructions are given to work the hat in the round or to knit flat if you prefer. Photo instructions for fisherman’s rib are included in case you are not already familiar with this stitch.
The hat uses about 75g of any Aran (Worsted) yarn and size 4.5 mm needles. the finished hat will be about 8 inches (20 cm) high and will have a circumference about 24 inches (60cm).
