Outlander Claire's Cowl Crocheted
I fell in love with all of the knit pieces in the new Outlander series on television. I don’t knit much, so here is an attempt at a crocheted version of Claire’s brown cowl. This is to be folded in half and looped over the head.
To imitate the knit look the pattern is alternating rows of (bpdc, bpsc), and(bldc, blsc). It is worked in turned rows. Each dc will be above a sc and each sc will be above a dc. We will crochet with 2 strands of yarn held together. The front side will be the back posts and will look a bit ribbed. The back side is the back loop side and will have the vacant loops making a line across the row.
Stitches: bpsc = back post single crochet
bpdc = back post double crochet
blsc = back loop single crochet
bldc = back loop double crochet
I used just a bit more than 2 skeins of yarn, but you may be able to get away with just the 2. This is quite large and bulky. Others may want to make it slightly smaller by doing less rows. 22 stitches across INCLUDING the turning sc by 90 rows will make the cowl around 10 inches by 88 inches before it is seamed.
