• DESCRIPTION

This shawl knitting pattern is inspired by Jenny’s shawl from Outlander worn by Jenny Murray, loaned to Mary McNab when she visits Jamie in the cave and later seen on Janet, Jenny’s daughter.

This pattern will allow you to create a large triangle shawl with a ruffled edge/border.

To knit this shawl you will have to knit short rows to create the ruffle on the edge/border of the shawl.

Yarn

Yarn Used - Cascade 220/100% wool - Iridescence (8872).

Yarn - 100g/219 yards/200m x 3 (S) x 4 (M) 5 (L/XL) x 6+ (XL/XXL).

Yarn weight - Medium weight 04/Worsted/Aran/10 Ply.

Please note - The shawl in the photographs is size M - and used 4 skeins of the Cascade 220 yarn

Needles

5mm (US 8) knitting needles.

I used my interchangeable circular needles on a 100cm/40′′ cable as there were many stitches.

• SKILLS

Level – Intermediate

This is an intermediate-level knitting pattern and the techniques involved are the knit stitch, short row shaping, casting on, and casting off.

The border of the shawl is created by short-row shaping.

There is a link to a video tutorial on my YouTube channel included to help you complete the ruffle border.

• SIZING

Please note – these sizes are just a rough guide, you can knit this shawl until it is comfortable for you to wear –

Test it out against yourself to see if you want to make the length shorter or longer before casting off.
