This pattern includes four downloadable pdf files, one for the written directions, and three pdf files for colorwork charts (left mitten, right mitten, and thumb). Featured on the back of the hands are portraits of Claire Elizabeth Randall Fraser and James Alexander Malcom McKenzie Fraser. One the palms of the hands is the Fraser clan motto “Je suis prest” and the letter F on the thumbs for Fraser. This pattern was insipred by the first two seasons of the beloved tv show Outlander. This pattern calls for 2 differently colored skeins of the Woolike yarn by Loops and Threads, however, another size 1 yarn (fingering/sock weight) can be used. Woolike has a lot of yardage and I use about a 4th of each skein when knitting one pair of mittens, so one skein of each color is plenty. Please use the end on the outside of the skein to save yourself hours of untangling. This pattern calls for US size 2 double pointed needles and is worked in the round. You can use size 1 needles if your hands are smaller than a women’s medium or you can manipulate the tightness of the gauge to achieve the size you desire.
