The Oval Rag Rug/Small Loop Yarn Project pattern makes a small oval rug which looks a bit like traditional ‘rag rugs’, but is in fact knitted. It is suitable in size for an accent rug, bathroom mat, or even a dog mat. PLEASE USE APPROPRIATE CARE WHEN USING THIS ITEM AS A RUG, SUCH AS APPLYING A BACKING OR USING WITH AN UNDER-PAD TO PREVENT SLIPPAGE.

SKILL LEVEL: Easy.

SUGGESTED MATERIALS: Approximately 3.5 balls of Bernat Alize Blanket-EZ Yarn (6.4oz, 180g) -OR- a mix of scrap yarn. (The example in the photo was made with 2 balls of Seaport Teals and 1.5 balls of Mint yarn).

SUGGESTED TOOLS: No knitting needles required (finger knitting). Scissors.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Approximately 24” x 36” (61 cm x 91.5 cm).

THIS PATTERN CAN BE CUSTOMIZED TO WHATEVER SIZE OR DIMENSIONS YOU WISH. YOU WILL DECIDE HOW WIDE AND HOW TALL YOU WANT YOUR RUG TO BE, BASED ON HOW MUCH YARN YOU HAVE AVAILABLE, AND THE DESIRED SIZE FOR YOUR RUG. THIS PATTERN IS JUST A GUIDELINE/EXAMPLE OF THE RUG-MAKING METHOD.

PLEASE NOTE: This pattern will work with any brand of loop yarn, but keep in mind that the size of the loops, and size of the balls/skeins of each brand is different.

Lion Brand Off-The-Hook, Lion Brand Crayola Off-The-Hook, Red Heart Loop-It, and Bernat Alize Puffy (European) yarns can all be used with this pattern, but will yield a rug with smaller overall dimensions. You will also need more yarn and more loops to complete a rug of this size.

You can mix brands of loop yarn, but note that smaller brands will require you to increase more stitches to keep your rug flat, and therefore will potentially need more yarn.
