Pattern Notes
This group of patterns is based on overshot weaving drafts. Overshot is a weaving technique that uses two different weft threads, traditionally wool for the pattern thread and cotton for the plain weave or “tabby”, alternating every row allowing for the pattern thread to have longer floats without losing structure. Overshot, like many old craft techniques does not have an exact historical origin. It became popular in the early 1800’s in North America for use as patterns for coverlets.
Wandering Vine, also known as Cat Track, Snail Trail, Dogwood Blossom is a two color stranded sock knit from the top down with an afterthought heel. Shown in Matholwch and Bran.
Youth and Beauty is worked with a total of four colors, only using two at a time, from the top down with an afterthought heel. Shown in Natural, Gray, Bran, and Matholwch.
Single Chariot Wheels is worked top down with an afterthought heel in two colors, Bran and Gray.
Snow on the Cedars is knit in two colors from the top down with an afterthought heel. Shown in Gray and Natural.
