Meet our adorable Owl. He’s cute, cuddly and very lovable.

This Owl is suitable for advanced beginner knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches and standard knitting terms. Our Owl is knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch, it’s eyes are outlined using a basic chain stitch

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 45 m of medium weight yarn (yarn A) for the body and ears. 3 m of medium weight yarn (yarn B) for the eyes, 2 m yarn (yarn C) for the beak and closed eyes and finally 2 m of yarn for the outline of the eyes. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need stuffing – more than you’d expect - (we use ecofil or wool) and a needle to sew your owl together. This will let you create an owl that’s approximately 15 cm (8 inches) in length.

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Be careful with this pattern, you’ll stuff a lot of filling into this little guy, so you’ll want to knit tighter than normal. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product. Make sure to knit a test swatch and then stretch the swatch to see how tight or loose the stitches are. Remember, anywhere light shines through, is where stuffing can show through when you stuff – choose your needles appropriately.
