Unique shawl of modular construction. No seams; everything is joined as you knit.
Materials:
- 60cm long circular needles (3mm or smaller for the owl and 3.5 or larger for the rest of the shawl);
fingering-weight yarn:
- 50g/200m for the owl total. Most of it is speckled/variegated, and the second color (for the body) can be lighter or darker solid. You will also need some black and yellow (or some other bright color) for the eyes. The owl’s modular construction allows for incorporating more colors if desired.
The sides of the shawl take 120-130g/480-520m of yarn total; that amount can be split about evenly between two colors.
You can also use sport-weight yarn instead of fingering-weight.
- waste yarn, stitch markers, tapestry needle.
Gauge:
22 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches in garter for the sides of the shawl. Knit the owl a little tighter/on smaller needles so that it does not stretch too much.
Size: the owl is approx. 40cm wide, drops 50cm (plus tassel adds another 7-8cm); the sides of the shawl are over 80cm long. I made two prototypes with blue and brown owl. The one with blue owl drapes more like a scarf; the shawl with brown owl has wider (taller) sides that are little shorter; it drapes more like a triangular shawl. The PDF has instructions for both options.
