Owl Capelet Shawl
This pattern doesn’t follow typical shawl construction. Knit from the bottom up, all shaping is created using SSKs and K2togs, rather than short rows.
Created in response to my daughter’s request for a shawl of her own, it was made to be quick and easy - with a shape resembling wings, and just enough owls to satisfy her obsession with the bird. The owls are created with simple cabling, while the main body of the shawl is basic garter stitch.
The small shawl fits my preschooler, while the larger fits a teen or adult. The change in size was achieved by changing yarn weight and needle size, and could easily be adjusted for older children/tweens.
In the shawls pictured, the small used less than one skein of Berroco Remix, knit on US8 needles. The large shawl used slightly more than 2 skeins of Cascade Yarns Baby Alpaca Chunky, knit on US11 needles. (Enough of the 3rd ball was left to knit some matching cuffs with yarn to spare.)
