Owls & Stripes
The irresistable combo of cables and stripes make this hat an addictive and quick knit, and it gets even better when you replace some of those plain cables with miniature owls. Keep it as written for a few owls peeking out amongst the plain cables, or take it up a notch and replace all of the plain cables with owls! Fun stripes offer the opportunity to use up scraps or mini skeins and mix it up with as many different colors of yarn as you desire.

US 6/4.0 mm 16 inch (40 cm) circular needle
US 7/4.5 mm double pointed needles
Cable Needle
Stitch marker
Yarn needle
Pompom maker (optional; see notes)
GAUGE
22 sts x 34 rows in 4” (10 cm) in stockinette & reverse stockinette stripes using larger needle, blocked.
NOTES
Each of the stockinette stripes uses approximately 12 yds (11 m) of yarn, so they are a perfect opportunity to use up small amounts of worsted weight yarn in your stash.
The cables make this hat quite stretchy, so the adult medium will fit most people. The large is quite large!
Optional pompom requires an additional 25g of yarn, depending on size and density.
If you want to add eyes to the owls I suggest sewing on small beads after knitting is complete.
This pattern contains complete written instructions as well as charts so that you may choose whichever you wish!
