If you’ve been buying my patterns over the years, you know I keep a sketch book and am working my way through the sketches and bringing the patterns to life. This one was drawn up in 2020, during the pandemic, and I’ve never knit it up. When I was knitting these samples this January we had a great gray owl coming by the back of the house almost daily. I really felt like this pattern name should honor that experience. I never did figure out where the owls were nesting, but we have a lot of barren ash trees behind the house with holes for various birds, like pileated woodpeckers, too.

This headband is knit in the round from the bottom up using circular needles. The pattern calls for 2 or 3 colors. There are instructions for 3 sizes, youth, teen/adult s/m, and adult l/xl. The height of the headband is the same for all 3 sizes.

Shown in Malabrigo Chunky yarn. Bulky yarn can vary quite a bit, so be sure to gauge swatch and adjust needle size as needed to meet gauge. Note: Tight knitters may want to size up needles for a better fit.
