Ozone
After the apocalypse, there will be no one to tell you you’re knitting the wrong way. Time is precious and the efficient knitter wraps stitches as they’re needed in the next row to eliminate the need for the ‘slip, slip’ part of the SSK; a technique today’s knitters call combined knitting. Ozone (which is both a layer and full of holes) uses a lot of slip-slipping, so consider this a skill-building meditation in controlling how you wrap your stitches and speeding your knitting. The zig-zagging lace pattern lacks straight lines that might attract the human eye, providing camouflage that you can peek through easily. The fringed bottom, in a lighter-weight yarn for maximum movement, is essential for softening the line between where you end and the sand begins.
This pattern is in the book Doomsday Knits, which is currently available at cooperativepress.com, as well as here on Ravelry.
