P Wave
The scarf is worked from bottom to top, in alternate
garter stitch, where both colours are worked at the
same time, and double-knitted waves, where the stitches
are worked with one strand of the colour shown in
the chart.
The colours of the double-knitting change, so that you
get the feeling of three colours in the pattern.
When the pattern is double knitted, the scarf is
reversible.
Inspiration:
In 1936, Inge Lehmann submitted a scientific publication titled “P’”, in which she was the first in the world to present the theory that the Earth has a solid inner core. At that time, it was assumed that the Earth had two layers: a solid mantle and a liquid core. However, this theory could not explain the anomaly observed in most earthquake observations – the so-called P-waves. Her discovery attracted significant international attention and was generally accepted by 1938.
Although Inge Lehmann became internationally famous and received both recognition and numerous international awards, she was overlooked and almost forgotten in Denmark.
Despite being active in her field for many years and writing her last scientific article at the age of 99 in 1987, it was not until 2017 that she received some recognition. A sculpture was
erected in her honor in front of the University of Copenhagen – a sculpture that depicts one of the seismographic waves that played such a large part in her life.
