Pabst Blue Ribbon
A super quick, totally addictive gift hat!
Pabst Blue Ribbon was an unexpected design that came to be when these diamonds didn’t work in the fingering weight shawl I planned to use them in. They were just too fun to give up on. Instead, I found these skeins in stash, swatched again, and decided a hat was the way to go!
So, PBR is knit up in squishy, soft aran-weight Corriedale yarn from Stone Wool. The lines of the diamond motif lend themselves beautifully to a distinct brim and crown, and the hat is tweedy and rustic and simple. The subtle heather in the Stone Wool yarn gives depth to the pattern, and the shapes and textures in the design manage to feel classic and modern at the same time.
The hat can be worn straight, with just a little extra room at top (I was wearing one with my hair up underneath), or folded back as Maya prefers to wear her hats. You’ll also have plenty of extra yarn to knit a few extra rounds of ribbing for a deeper fold if desired.
I had enough yarn leftover to work poms for both, but the girls decided they wanted the hats without.
And yes, these are the same two girls I sent off to college with their Boston Flip hats a while back, grown up just a little bit more. Once I realized I had knit two of these, and that I’d be seeing them together this weekend, I figured it was time to update their college hat wardrobes….
