Pacu the alpaca
This is a .pdf crochet pattern, written in standard American crochet terms for Pacu the alpaca. With this easy pattern, you can make an utterly soft and sweet looking alpaca doll.
Size
Size of finished alpaca sitting made with worsted weight yarn: 6.5 inch / 16,5 cm.
The crochet pattern contains
An intro with useful info. List of materials, tools and accessories needed. Brand and colour numbers of the needed yarn. A clear and colour coded description of how to crochet and assemble the animal. Pictures and illustrations to help getting everything right. All my patterns are text edited for correct English and have been tested by an experienced crocheter before publishing.
Materials
For this crochet alpaca you’ll need worsted weight yarn and an E US/3.5 mm crochet hook. You’ll need two different yarns, Istex Lètt Lopi, colour straw 1418 (1/3 of a 100 yard skein) and Garnstudio Drops alpaca bouclé mix 2020. You also need some yarn to embroider a nose and mouth. For the eyes I’ve used 8 mm animal eyes. You will also need fibrefill and pellets for a bit of extra weight in the body (I use Hama beads). A pipe cleaner for the tail is optional. If you are using a different yarn than the Drops, make sure it matches its weight and gauge: 50 g (1.8 oz) = 140 m (153 yds), 10 x 10 cm (4” x 4”) = 17 st x 22 rows.
Yarn
Pacu is made with a combination of Istex Lett Lopi, a 100% wool and Garnstudio Drops alpaca bouclé, a fuzzy loopy yarn. For those of you who can’t find a very fuzzy alpaca yarn I added alternative instructions to the pattern to create the furry look with a less fuzzy yarn.
Gauge is unimportant for this pattern. If the pieces are crocheted tightly enough, they will not gape visibly when stuffed. You can make a little test swap to be sure.
