Paestum, Italy, is a beautiful place, rich in historical and cultural meaning. These gloves pay tribute to the Temples, Roses and pine forests of this UNESCO Heritage site. Classically elegant, these gloves are perfect for the office, or for your next great adventure. These are actually my favourite everyday gloves. A garter or ribbed cuff, structured lace, columnar ribbing, and a single floral motif are classic design elements, but what I love best is how the broken rib stitch bathes the hands in comfort, simply delightful! These gloves are a relatively simple knit which I hope will become a favourite of yours too!

Small/Medium - hand circ. 16.5-18.4 cm (6.5-7.25 in.)
Medium/Large – hand circ. 19-21.6 cm (7.5-8.5 in.)
Finished diameter at palm: 15.8 19 cm (6.25 7.5 in.)

Yarn requirements
50g of 4 ply, sock /fingering yarn having at least
180m (197 yds) in total for all size and length options

These gloves were the inspiration for my newest pattern, the Paestum Beret!
Matching beret pattern will be available by end of January 2014.

Pattern Notes
These gloves are worked in the round using a set of 4 double pointed needles or you can use the magic loop technique if you prefer.
The cuff edge can be worked in either ribbing or in garter stitch. Garter stitch has more give and will result in a wavier edge due to the structure of the lace that follows it.

Both samples here are s/m, 6 lace repeats.
Each pair took 43 g (145 metres/159 yds) of 4ply wool. The blue are 100% alpaca, the brown are my own handspun Blue Faced Leicester.
