The Indian Paintbrush flower was the inspiration for this pattern’s name. It is native in my current home state of Colorado and when it blooms, it turns nature into a magical painted canvas.

Just like the stitch pattern for this cowl, the elongated and crossed stitches not only show off your tape or ribbon yarn beautifully, but also splash the colors of your hand-painted yarn across the cowl.

The cowl is worked in the round and is an easy knit.

Gauge:
16 sts in garter st = 4” wide
or
three 6-st Crossed Stitches = 4½“ and Rnds 19–27 = 2¼” tall on smaller needle

Yarn:
Not much yarn will remain after cowl is completed. If you adjust its length or knit at a looser gauge you will need to purchase more yarn.

Sample Colors:
Top sample shown in color “Begonia”
Bottom sample shown in color “Maui”
