Painted Canvas
Winner - 2020 Local Yarn Store Day Crochet Pattern as selected by the original event sponsor - TNNA
Designed to celebrate the diversity of our local yarn shop communities in support of Local Yarn Store Day 2020, this award winning poncho design is yarn agnostic, uses no specific color, or fiber content, is a generic pattern, and most importantly a blank slate for consumers to create a masterpiece.
The inspiration was the idea to create a blank slate/canvas upon which fiber artists may exercise their creative freedom. The idea of “canvas” lead me to seek out a stitch in the spirit of canvas. My interest in making this a simple pattern lead me to use the Linen Stitch as it requires a knowledge of chaining and single crochet. With a concept and stitch in mind, I chose to “paint” my story in hand painted cotton yarn, shown at the right, using a linen stitch for my prototype.
So, join in the fun, crochet one for yourself to do your own yarn crawl on Local Yarn Store Day 2021 or pick up skeins along the way and make one as a meaningful memento in support of your local yarn stores.
