The pattern on the socks is inspired by the designs of hand-painted Easter eggs. The zig-zag pattern can be painted on the eggs either as narrow or wide stripes. By changing the colours, the socks can be true Easter socks or suitable for year-round use as colourwork socks.

Sizes: The pattern includes three sizes in width, 60 (66) 72 stitches. The sock circumference is 17.5 (19.5) 21 cm 7″ (7.75″) 8.25″. The length of the foot can easily be adjusted. If only one stitch count is given in the instructions, it applies to all sizes.

Ease: 2 cm of negative ease.

Yarn: Fingering weight sock yarn, approximately 400–425 m 437-465 yds / 100 g.
The 2-colour socks are knitted in size 1, using Drops Fabel in colours 120 and 109. These socks use about 4 g of yarn for each stripe (for both socks). Size 3 uses about 5 g of yarn for each stripe (for both socks).
The light coloured socks are knitted in size 2, using Laurelknits SuperSock in the colour “Common Sense,” with various small amounts of merino sock yarns used for the colorwork. These socks use about 2 g of contrast colour for each stripe (for both socks).

Yarn usage: Approximately 70 (90) 110 g. If you prefer a taller cuff, you will need more yarn. If your gauge does not match the pattern, your yarn usage may vary.
For my size 1 (2-colour) socks, the total yarn used was 58 g: 33 g of the main colour and 26 g of the contrast colour.
For the size 2 socks, the total was 78 g: 64 g of the main colour and 14 g of contrast colours.

Gauge: 34 sts and 40 rounds = 10 cm x 10 cm (4″ x 4 ″) in stockinette stitch.

Needles: 2.25 mm US 1 and 2.5 mm US 1.5 double-pointed needles, or another needle size to meet gauge.

Knitting Style: The pattern is written to be worked using five double-pointed needles.

Notions: Tapestry needle, 2 distinct removable stitch markers, approximately 3 metres of yarn (of similar thickness) for a tubular cast-on, crochet hook.
