Painting with Light
Odd-sided octagons fit together with smaller diamond shapes to form an all-over design with strong geometric lines, reminiscent of leaded glass and the golden age of Art Deco.
The pattern is 14 pages long, with lots of helpful hints and explanatory photos. You can use any yarn and make any size or shape you like but these are the details for the example shown in the top picture:
MEASUREMENTS: 66 cm x 102 cm (26” x 40”) for 5 x 8 large motifs and border
FINISHED WEIGHT: 500 g (18 oz) (Excludes any allowance for yarn ends and wastage)
YARN: Ten colours of Deramores Studio DK 100% acrylic, 100 g per ball
AMOUNTS USED:
250 g (625 m) of Amethyst, for the “leaded frame”
150 g (375 m) of Pearl, for the centres of all the motifs and the half-centres in Round 2 of the border
20 g (50 m) each of Mist, Fir, Rosemary, Malachite, Oatmeal and Blue Velvet for the coloured ‘glass’ inserts
40 g (100 m) each of Sky and Topaz, for the coloured ‘glass’ inserts and the border.
Total amount used: 600 g (21 oz); 1,500 m (1,640 yd)
Amethyst and Pearl are used in every motif; all the other colours are equally distributed across the ‘glass’ inserts of the large motifs.
If you use light, bright colours for the “glass” inserts, and a contrasting darker colour for the “frame” the effect will be almost translucent.
Enjoy choosing from your paint palette :).
Sincere and heartfelt thanks to my valued testers, lovely Lara, fabulous Faye and heavenly Heather!
