Crochet pattern for a pair of cardinals blanket / tapestry / throw. This pattern comes with both a graph and written directions.

All single stitch crochet using the tapestry crochet technique (carrying yarn)

You will need 7 skeins of white (A), 1 skein of black (B), 4 skeins of reddish brown (C), 3 skeins of light red (D) & 2 skeins of tan (E) to complete this pattern. This is assuming a medium weight yarn with a skein length of about 350 yards per skein.

I recommend carrying the white (A) & Reddish Brown (C) through the entire pattern to keep it even. I would only carry the Black (B), Bright Red (D) & Tan (E) in their corresponding sections.

I would recommend also carrying the red through the pattern since it’s in a bunch of places and I only recommended carrying two other colors through the whole pattern. However, with the background being white (if you do choose to do a white background) and the Bright Red being such a bright color it is sure to show through more. That being said, carry whichever yarns you’d like for this pattern but if you do I would have some extra red yarn to account for that.

I recommend a medium weight (worsted weight) yarn with a J sized hook. The tapestry should come out a little over 4 feet wide (when crocheted with a J hook and medium weight yarn) A border can increase the size and give the project a more finished look.

It is all single stitch crochet. In order to make this blanket you will need to know how to carry yarn (there are great Youtube videos that can teach you how to do the Tapestry Crochet Technique. I highly recommend trying a small simple pattern to practice carrying yarn before attempting a larger project. Carrying yarn gets more difficult as you add more colors.
