This beautiful yarn was sent to me as part of an ongoing adventure in designing for, and knitting with, handspun yarn. The organic Polwarth fibre was dyed by Inglenook Fibers , then spun and plied by Worldweaver into a gradient set of seven sport-weight skeins, each measuring approximately 143 metres and weighing approximately 40 grams (155 yds/1.4 oz). I suspected that each colour in the gradient would stripe subtly as it was knit, and I wanted the lovely colours to take centre-stage, so I chose a simple lace stitch pattern for the design. Knit on the bias, the parallelogram shape of the wrap highlights the strong vertical lines of the “Chain of Diamonds” stitch pattern, as each “chain” crosses diagonally along the length of the wrap. Both the shaping and the stitch pattern used in this project would lend themselves to yarns of different weights and fibres, as well as other colour-blocking or striping sequences. Some notes are included in the pattern to help you personalize your project.
