Pajama Babies Doll
This 18-page PDF contains everything you need to make the baby dolls in the photos above. These little dolls can be made in a wide assortment of yarns perfect for the little ones. They are 8-10” with the materials that I have used. You can adapt this pattern to use for many weights of yarn and hook size.
I give loads of detailed information in my patterns with hints and tips and tricks.
I have designed these to have almost NO SEWING and require minimal materials and time.
These are written to be very beginner friendly. I have a FULL PHOTO TUTORIAL at the end of the pattern from my Furry Friends Collection. There are 5 full pages of photos at the end with step-by-step visuals to make this a very beginner friendly pattern. You can also find the Furry Friends here in my Ravelry Store.
For the more advanced crocheter, these work up in under 2 hours for me!
Most of my toy patterns are made with 4-ply worsted weight yarn scraps like Red Heart Super Saver, Caron One Pound and Impeccable Yarn.
These babies are mostly made holding two strands of yarn at the same time. I will note the materials for each one inside the pattern.
This set of patterns was born after the “Furry Friends” patterns because through the years I had obtained a giant storage bin full of “fur” type yarns that I wanted to de-stash. My stash included almost every brand of eyelash/fun fur yarns like Lion Brand Fun Fur, Red Heart Fun Fur, Eyelash Ice Yarn, Bernat Bling Bling, Patons Cha Cha, an unmarked furry ribbon yarn and more. A lot of these were unmarked and I am sure discontinued, but I also worked some of these up with Scrubby Yarn that you can purchase as I write this.
You can also use these patterns with some newer yarns currently on the market. This pattern is very adaptable to many yarn types and I will cover those as we get to each baby in the PDF.
Yarn: This pattern uses a wide variety of yarns and types of yarns. Some of the babies were made holding one strand and some were made by holding together two strands depending on the yarn. If you have never worked with “weird” yarns before, you might not know that if you hold one strand of a regular type yarn with the textured yarn it can help you see/find the stitches easier.
Two of the skin toned yarns that I used are: Red Heart Super Saver in Aran (this used to be called Soft White), and Red Heart Super Saver in Café Latte. One of my skeins in golden light brown was not labeled.
How much yarn will you need? The bunny-eared baby was made with K&C Angel Hair #5 yarn (110 yds/3.5oz/100m/100g) and I had the smallest of balls leftover from that baby, but she also uses a tiny bit of 4-ply worsted weight yarn for the head/hands. The boy in blue baby used almost all of the skein of Red Heart Scrubby Stripes (85g/3oz/80yds/73m) and some regular 4-ply yarn for the head/hands. I give more details on materials for each baby inside the pattern.
Hooks: The hooks you will use will vary slightly depending on your yarn. You want to use a hook that will work for your yarn and give a nice baby with no holes when finished. I found that with my tension, I used my size H/5mm for most of the babies and the yarns I chose. For the head/hands, I held one strand of 4-ply worsted weight yarn and went down to my size G/4mm hook for those parts.
Additional Materials: You will also need a yarn needle big enough for your yarn, stuffing, and safety eyes if you are using those. The safety eyes that I have used are 12mm. For the baby rattle dolls, I used black yarn and embroidered those eyes for safety.
I use US Crochet terms.
