Palamuse A 167:24/ab
These mittens are based on the ones found in the Estonian National Museum, (Eesti Rahva Muuseum, ERM,) A 167:24/ab A brief history of the mittens is included in the book.
The pattern is found on page 200 in Eesti labakindad ilma laande laiali.
Two partial charts are included - one for the main motif that is used on both the back of the hand and the palm; and one for the lace cuff. The chart for the thumb tip can be found on page 149.
NB: the chart for the main motif, center stitch, should be in the dark MC to match the mittens.
Experience in mitten knitting is assumed as the written instructions are few, mainly descriptions of colors and of decreases for the mitten and thumb tips. Instructions for decreases, thumb openings and determination of gauge, needles and yarn can be found on pages 228-29. Abbreviations with further explanations are on page 231.
