Palo Duro is a crescent shaped shawl worked from the bottom up. It has a garter eyelet edging on the bottom and top edges. The body is worked in stockinette stitch with short rows that curve the edges of the shawl and distort the stripes. The loose gauge results in a drapey, light shawl.

Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle is an unexpected magnificent vista in the middle of the otherwise drab and dusty high plains. Erosion has cut through sedimentary rock formations for eons, exposing stunning strata of colors that curve and bend across the cliff faces.

This shawl mimics the layers of Palo Duro Canyon by utilizing the color transitions in Cascade Yarns’ Tangier. Short rows bend the colors around each other instead of forming straight stripes.
