Pamlico Shawl
Skill Level: Adventurous advanced beginner or higher.
Skills Required (or willing to learn): Yarn over; k2tog and ssk (single decreases); k3tog, p3tog, sssk, and sssp (double decreases); purl side shadow wraps; reverse knitting. Links to video tutorials for shadow wraps and reverse knitting are included in Stitch Guide.
This pattern creates an asymmetric 2-color semicircular shawl. It is knit from the bottom to the neck edge, so it is critical that you have enough yarn to complete the entire project before beginning.
Photographed turquoise model used 414 yards (377 meters) or 97% of a 440 yard (400 meter) hank for the MC. By contrast, the beige shawl, worked to the same gauge, used 525 yards (478 meters). The difference in yardage used is attributed to the spin and loftiness of the beige yarn.
The shaping is created with double decreases and shadow wraps. Reverse knitting 2 sts on each end of every WS row adds ease to the upper edge. These techniques are easily mastered, so nobody should shy away if they haven’t tried them! In fact, these little differences would make this pattern a good candidate for an LYS KAL!
Pattern is written instructions only. 3 pages.
