The Parallax Beanie is a ribbed planned pooling beanie that has a continuous bouncing line formed by the contrasting color that goes all the way around the hat.

This uses just over half of a skein of Dream in Color Riley in an assigned pooling colorway, with enough yarn left over to make something small to go with it.

A possible alternative is Wonderland Yarns March Hare in one of their Colorburst Colorways, though make sure to pick a colorway with clear distinction between the main color and the contrasting gradient

A few warnings:

  • This pattern only makes one mystery size of hat because of the planned pooling gauge. It most likely fits a small to medium adult head.
  • because of the way the length/skein diameter of the hank informs the contrasting color length, you likely won’t be able to make yarn substitutions.

Characteristics of the yarn in case you want to try for a substitution:

  • 80% main color, 20% contrasting color (clear lines presumably from dip dyeing.)
  • Single Ply Worsted Weight 4 oz. = 200 yds
  • Length of Hank: about 34 inches

If you find a yarn that matches the characteristics please let me know! I’d love to let more people use this pattern and make it available for more yarns. I’ve found that Riley has a very long length/skein diameter compared to other assigned pooling yarns and there aren’t that many other AP worsted weight yarns to begin with.

Pattern includes link to an app to create a chart that matches your specific yarn color and contrasting color lengths.
