Paris dream Basque
- The beauty of this project is given by the impressive pattern created by the puff stitch. It looks stunning and creates an amazing 3-dimensional effect.
- The beret can be crocheted in any yarn of similar weight. Using cotton makes it less stretchy, of course, so keep this in mind when choosing yarn.
- This is a typical spring hat. The form itself of the basque makes it rather trendy than warm, but there lies its beauty.
This pattern is in ENGLISH and uses standard US crochet terminology and abbreviations. It contains a link to a free YouTube video explaining the technique.
FINISHED SIZE: a basque beret usually has a wide circumference and gets narrower where it has to fit the head. For this reason, it is easily adaptable. The one made out of this pattern fits the head of an adult woman (55 cm – 21.6”).
YARN: 55 g. (1.94 oz) / 176 m (192 yds) of 4 ply fine 50% cotton – 50% acrylic yarn for a beret. In this project I used ICE Yarns “Cottonac” in clr. Mint, green, turquoise, code 51299.
GAUGE: 16-20 sts / 10 cm (4”). Not necessary for this pattern.
HOOKS: 3 mm hook (11 – D/3).
NOTIONS: Crochet basic stitches, working in the round, magic ring. Puff stitch.
Skill Level: EASY.
TYPE OF PATTERN: written instructions + many pictures + link to video
