This pattern from 1892 The Art of Knitting, p.23, no.15, has a 5-stitch, 8-row repeat + 3 edge stitches + 2 selvage stitches. If knitting in the round, work just the repeat and eliminate the edge and selvage stitches. 6 of the rows are a simple rib stitch. This stitch pattern reminds me of raindrops with tiny Eiffel towers above them – very fitting for summer 2024!

Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, k2tog, SSK, YO and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

60 yards of #10 crochet thread will make about 10 inches of a 35-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
