I first saw this stitch pattern when Lisa Whiting designed a cardigan for Vogue Knitting Magazine, Winter 2010/2011, called Two-Color Rib Cardi. I thought this stitch should have been worked in brioche, not stranded.

I re-invented the stitch (in my head) in brioche but eventually put it on the back burner. Now Lisa has introduced it yet again as a scarf for Paris in Gilmore Girls and this time, I couldn’t let it go. Here’s the brioche version of a very beautiful stitch. This scarf drapes beautifully and is reversible, you have a lovely light side as well as a lovely dark side.

This pattern combined two-color brioche with double knitting. In both techniques you are required to slip every other stitch. When combining the two techniques, you create undulations as the fabric is pulled in for the double knitting and spread out when brioching.

My scarf used one 400m skein of each color.

There is a bracket missing on page 4, for Row 3, LS DC, it should read: sl1, brp1, sl1yo, brp1 5 times, sl1wyib, p1, sl1wyib 3 times, brp1, sl1yo 5 times; rep from one more time, brp1, sl1.
