Parmelia sulcata, also known as waxpaper lichen, is found throughout Europe and North America, including here in southern Alberta. This species of lichen was used by Europeans and North American Indigenous peoples to make dyes, producing a reddish-brown color. The texture and colour of waxpaper lichen is the inspiration for this lace and mohair cowl.

Yarn 2: Donna by Wendy 50g, 1 ball. Colour 625. Any currently available Worsted (#4) novelty mohair yarn with similar yardage may be substituted.
