Technique:
Overlay Mosaic Crochet with slanted stitches: each round is made with one color and consists of single crochet in the back loop (sc blo) and double crochet in the front loop (dc flo)

Stitches:
In addition to vertical dc, I also use slanted dc and extended dc (made one or two stitches back or forward), decreases, increases, and occasionally, front post stitches (there is a video and explanation for all stitches)

Size:

• Bag and Pillow Width x Height: 34 cm x 34 cm/ 13 ⅜’’ x 13 ⅜’’
• Hand-bag (shoulder-bag) handles: 27 (60) cm/ 10 ½ (23 ½)’’ for a hand-bag (shoulder-bag)

Recommended materials:

Yarn:

• Fingering/ 4ply weight such as Scheepjes Whirlette (60% Cotton x 40% Acrylic, 100g/ 455m) or Scheepjes Whirl (60% Cotton x 40% Acrylic, 215-225g/ 1000m)

For a bag:

• Total: 262 (289) g (includes 10% extra)
• Yarn1 (background): 128 g / 1 Whirl in 765 Lemon Cassis Cream (18 g for the bottom, 110 g for mosaic)
• Yarn2 (contrast): 102 g / 1 Whirlette in 888 Acai Berry (90 g for mosaic, 12 g for upper edge backing)
• Yarn3 (white cheek): 8 g / 1 Whirlette in 860 Ice
• Yarn4 (eye): 1 g / same yarn as for handles
• Handles: 23 (50) g / Whirlette in 853 Mango for hand-bag (shoulder-bag) handles
• Beak (if different than Yarn2): 8g (reduce Yarn2 amount by 8g)

For a pillow:

• Total: 211g (includes 10% extra)
• Yarn1 (background): 110g/ 1 Whirl in 765 Lemon Cassis Cream
• Yarn2 (contrast): 90g/ 1 Whirlette in 888 Acai Berry
• Yarn3 (white cheek): 10g/ 1 Whirlette in 860 Ice
• Yarn4 (eye): 1g/ 1 Whirlette in 853 Mango

Other materials and tools:

For a bag:

• Crochet hooks: 2.5mm (for the bag body), 2.75mm (for handles), 3mm (for bottom-less bag foundation).
• 43-45cm/ 17-18 ½’’ of pre-quilted fabric (bag height + ½ of the bottom width + 6cm/ 2 ⅜’’)
• 9cm x 72cm/ 3 ½’’ x 28 ¼’’ piece of buckram or Pellon 70 Peltex Sew-In Ultra Firm Stabilizer to reinforce the upper edge (bag width x 2 + 4cm/ 1 ½’’)
• Optional for reinforcing the bottom: 26cm x 6cm/ 10 ¼’’ x 2 ⅜’’ piece of plastic canvas (bag bottom measurements minus 2cm/ ¾’’ from each side)
• Sewing machine, sewing thread (match lining and handles)
• 1 x sew-on magnetic snap
• Tapestry needle

For a pillow:

• Crochet hook 2.5-3mm (for a sturdier bag with higher fabric density, 2.5mm hook is recommended. For a pillow, a larger hook (up to 3mm) can be used, which may result in slightly larger dimensions)
• Pillow insert (1-2cm/ ⅜ – ¾’’ bigger than finished size)
• Optional: 29cm/ 11 ⅜’’ invisible zipper (pillow width minus 5cm/ 2’’)
