These socks were inspired by the cheerful fabric bunting that we made for the Knit Tea Retreats. There’s a little bit of fun at the top of the leg, and the rest is soothing plain vanilla all the way, with a contrast heel and toe. They would be a perfect project for knitting on the go or at knit nights.

The pattern is written for 3 sizes, small, medium and large (56, 64, 72 sts). They have a heel flap and gusset, and are closed at the toe using Kitchener stitch. It’s written for dpns with a heel flap and gusset, but you could just as easily knit them on two circulars or using the magic loop technique, and substitute your preferred heel. The patterned section at the top of the leg features welts for the bunting ribbon, and just 12 rows of super simple charted colourwork for the bunting triangles themselves. The contrast colours are perfect for using up scraps.

Yarn & Notions
Main Colour: 100g (approximately 400m / 437 yds) of sock-weight yarn. Sample uses Owl About Yarn Cuddly Owl Sock in undyed (75% superwash merino, 25% nylon).
Contrast Colour 1: 20g of sock-weight yarn. Owl About Yarn Cuddly Owl.
Contrast Colour 2: 5g of sock-weight yarn.
2.25mm (main sock) and 2.5mm (welts and colourwork) (US 1 and 1.5) needles OR the size required to meet gauge.
Stitch marker or scrap of waste yarn.

Gauge
8 stitches and 14 rounds to 1 inch / 2.5cm in stocking stitch AND colourwork in the round, in both needle sizes. Please note your gauge may be different in colourwork.
