Passepartout is a flexible pattern that can result in a kerchief, scarflette, scarf, shawlette, or shawl based upon the number of increase/decrease repeats you work. It’s equally beautiful with only 2 colors or as a stashbuster for all the fingering weight scraps you have.

Passepartout is the valet in Jules Verne’s classic novel Around the World in 80 Days. His name in French means “goes everywhere” and this piece is the perfect travel accessory that can go with you anywhere! Maybe sleeping on a moving train wasn’t everything you thought it would be and you need something to cover your train hair - kerchief to the rescue! Or perhaps you’re down to your last clean shirt, and it’s the one you brought in case you ended up at a disco in Ibiza - hide your scantily cladness with the shawl!

Notes:

• Check out the handy-dandy calculator to determine how many repeats you can do with the amount of yarn you have and the estimated size of the finished piece! If there are already numbers in the green boxes, just replace them with your own
• With fingering weight yarn, you can use as little as 39g of MC and 11g of CC to make a kerchief or 182g of MC and 86g of CC to make a full-sized shawl.
• Want to use something besides fingering weight? Work set-up and increase repeats until you hit 40% of MC yarn used, then proceed to center rows and you will be able to complete the piece without running out of yarn.
