Patch Cowl II
Knit a Patch Cowl II! Patch Cowl II is a thick, cozy neckwarmer, with a neat little tweak in the form of an inset contrasting patch. (I used heavier yarn for the patch, but you don’t have to—it’s not an important element.)
The construction’s a little weird, with engaging transitional points within the overall project, but the majority of the actual knitting is easy stockinette. The finished cowl is fairly minimalist. Short rows result in a contrast patch an almost embossed look, so the weird part is worth it.
Materials:
- 40 yards of CC/Malabrigo Yarn Rios or similar worsted-weight yarn; 1 skein or about 310 yards MC/Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo or similar sportweight substitute yarn
- 2 16” circular needles in US5-6/3.75-4.0mm, or size needed for gauge.
- 1 set of 5 DPNs in size needed for gauge
- Ample scrap yarn/stitch holders/spare circular needle in same size or one size down
- Crochet hook, 2.25-4.0mm, for cast-ons (provisional and Ocker’s circular; see Tool Note for information about the broad mm range)
- Tapestry needle
- Removable stitch marker(s)
Gauge:
Gauge is 20 sts and 42 rows over 4”/10cm of blocked stockinette stitch, worked in the round. Please be sure to check your gauge! A slightly wider gauge is all right; a smaller one won’t result in a wearable cowl.
