This hat has 4 cables twisting around and across the top. The samples were worked entirely on US 3 (3.25mm) needles. Each of the samples required about 195 yds (175 m) of fingering weight yarn - a full 50g ball, or maybe a bit more. The band has fewer stitches than the sides but, if you like a snug band, you might want to knit the ribbing with a smaller needle.

A cable needle and 9 stitch markers are suggested.
