Patchwork CAL
Welcome to my first Crochet Along!
This pattern is in mosaic crochet, using the Overlay method (also known as: the one row method or Tinna’s method).
A Crochet Along, also known as a CAL, is a crochet event where the pattern is released in weekly parts and people all over the world are crocheting the pattern at the same time. This CAL was hosted in my Facebook group Maud’s Crochet Club, where you can still get support from other people who are crocheting the same pattern. Search for it on Facebook, request to join and I will let you in!
It doesn’t matter how fast or slow you go; the fun is in doing it together, inspiring each other, helping each other and seeing the beautiful blankets everybody is crocheting.
I for one can’t wait to see what beautiful blanket you will crochet!
The pattern includes
- Charts and written instructions for 20 different squares
- Instructions on mosaic crochet (including pictures), on reading the charts and on joining the squares
- Color inspiration
- Four variations on the original designs if you don’t want to crochet different squares
- Instructions and pattern for a double border
Size
The finished blanket consists of 20 squares, sewn or crocheted together. Around that blanket a (double) border is crocheted.
Each square is 30 x 30 centimeters/12 inches x 12 inches.
The finished body of the blanket, using 20 squares, is 120 x 150 centimeters/48 inches by 60 inches.
The small border will add 6 centimeters/2,36 inches to each side.
The large border will add 12 centimeters/4,7 inches to each side.
Yarn stats
I’m giving you the yarn stats for Stylecraft Special DK, because that is what I used. You can of course use different yarn, but the amounts needed and size of your blanket may be different.
You are using a minimum of three colors for this blanket.
Total blanket, with the large double border: 2.141 grams/75.5 ounces (21,5 balls).
Total blanket, with the small double border: 1.815 grams/64 ounces (18,25 balls).
For the main body of the blanket, you will need a 4,5 mm hook (G/7 hook). You will also need hooks one and two sizes smaller than that for the border.
My blanket
The blanket I made has 7 squares with Camel as color A, 7 squares with Gold as color A and 6 squares with Walnut as color A. My large double border has Walnut as color A and Gold as color B.
1.115 grams/39,3 ounces (12 balls) of Walnut
547 grams/19,3 ounces (6 balls) of Gold
479 grams/16,9 ounces (5 balls) of Camel
