Patchwork Granny Square Blanket
I have designed this easy patchwork blanket pattern with basic crochet stitches using US terminology of chains, single crochets, double crochets and the bobble stitch. It is not complicated but still has an overall affect of looking fabulous. For UK and Australian crocheters there is a stitch conversion for you. I have also included a handy written and visual tutorial on the bobble stitch.
All my patterns are written in my own unique style giving you step by step instructions with large images at each stage so you can track your progress visually as well. This pattern is 12 pages in length.
I used Flinders Four Seasons 8 ply 100% cotton yarn for this blanket with a stitch tension of 21 stitches x 29 rows to 10cm x 10cm square. Any 8 ply cotton or cotton blend yarn would work well for this project. You could also use a 10 ply yarn but keep in mind the finished size will be larger than the sizing indicated below. You may also need to use a larger crochet hook.
I have provided three different sizes for this baby blanket in this pattern of small, medium and large. See sizing below for exact measurements. You can also make this blanket to any size.
MATERIALS
Any cotton or cotton blend 8 ply yarn would be suited to this project.
CROCHET HOOK: METRIC: Size 3.75mm, USA: F/5, UK: Size 6.
I used 15 x 50g balls of 8 ply cotton yarn for this blanket. Any yarn that is an 8 ply weight would be suited for this project. You will need 4 balls of the main colour and 11 balls of contrasting colour for the blanket size I made. This is also a great way of using up scrap yarn to make the flower motifs as you only need a small amount for each flower.
Darning needle to sew in ends.
TENSION - Based on the cotton yarn I used for this project
21 stitches x 29 rows to 10cm x 10cm square
SIZES
SMALL: 96 Motifs
MEDIUM: 153 Motifs
LARGE: Large 190 Motifs
