It’s all about the texture in this double-knit sweater. The pattern alternates plain panels with textured panels in a variety of my favourite stitches, mixed together in a patchwork style.

Make the sweater your own by choosing the textured panels you want to include, or create your own.

The sweater is made in two sides, worked from bottom to top and then seamed together. Long sleeves are made in individual pieces and seamed in, and bottom ribbing added to complete the sweater.

The pattern covers sizes S to 5XL. You can download one pattern covering all sizes, or choose between two individual patterns covering S to XL and 2XL to 5XL respectively, for easier reading.

Customising the sweater:

You can choose a different arrangement of the texture panels according to your own favourite stitches. I recommend drawing a quick grid of each piece (like the ones in the pattern PDF) so you can keep track.

You can also design your own texture panels featuring other stitches or techniques. Each texture panel should be the given number of stitches for your selected size, and the given number of rows. The rows in your texture panel should average out at hdc-height rows. That is to say your texture panel doesn’t need to be all hdc rows, you could alternate dc and sc, for example, which averages out to hdc-height.

The panel stitch and row counts for the various sizes are:
S: 12 rows of 12 stitches
M, L, XL: 12 rows of 14 stitches
2X, 3X, 4X, 5X: 14 rows of 18 stitches

To check the design of your texture panel you could whip up a quick test panel: for the best test you can include the vertical bars on either side plus two stitches outside each vertical bar, and start with the horizontal bar below the panel.
