The pattern for these gloves is inspired by a pair from the Yorkshire Dales by Mary Allen dating from 1910 that are held in the Collection of the Knitting & Crochet Guild. They are not an exact replica of the historic ones, but have the same characteristic patterns. They include the same initials and date as the originals, but this of course can be customised to suit the intended wearer. Charts to use for this purpose are given in the appendix of “A Knitters Guide to Gloves” book.

The specified yarn is spun in Bradford and is 75% wool 25% nylon meaning that these gloves will stand up to hard wear while being warm. Although these gloves have been knitted in black and cream, Dales gloves have been recorded in red and black and even green and mauve.
