These gloves are modelled on Ringwood gloves and other similar textured gloves held in the Collection of the Knitting & Crochet Guild. Ringwood is a small town in Hampshire, England, where gloves were historically knitted at home by people who were paid by the pair for their work. Historic patterns for Ringwood-style gloves from the first half of the 20th century were used as the inspiration for this design. The gloves could be knitted in wool or cotton, with Ringwood gloves in pale yellow cotton being a classic for country wear and riding.

Two yarn weights are given for the pattern. The double knitting yarn gives a large glove, while the 4-ply yarn gives a smaller pair using the same instructions.
