The aran weight yarn makes this triangular shaped shawl perfectly comfy but still has nice drape. Worked top-down and utilizing increase stitches on right side rows to create a triangular shaped shawl. Finished measurements are approximately 62” x 26” (157.5 cm x 66 cm).
It all started with a Buffalo Plaid top, which just needed a little something. Then, there was a desire to design something that would look good in dark colors as well as light. I wanted something with lines and shapes, working together to make something beautiful.
Skill level: Advanced beginner and beyond. Video tutorials are provided for the Garter Tab cast on, the increase stitches (M1s) and the recommended bind off.
This pattern has been tech edited and test knitted. It is my fervent wish that you enjoy the pattern, but more so, the finished shawl. Knit and wear in good health and happiness.
Materials:
Yarn: 420 yards Aran weight yarn – Samples used 2 skeins each of Lucky Tweed by Kelbourne Woolens (Aran, 100% Merino Wool, 210 yards/192 meters/100 g per skein). The dark sample is 2 skeins 006 Black and the light sample is 2 skeins 085 Light Gray.
Note on yarn: If you wanted to work this up with lighter weight held together, 2 DKs or a worsted with lace weight should work. Recommend checking gauge with a swatch.
Needles: US 9/5.5 mm (circular with a long cord recommended to accommodate the number of stitches in an aran weight yarn - 40”/100 cm or greater will be most comfortable as your shawl grows)
Notions: Stitch markers recommended
Gauge: 16 stitches and 24 rows/4” (10 cm) in Stockinette Stitch
Finished dimensions: Approximately 62” x 26” (157.5 cm x 66 cm)
