Paulette’s is a simple design idea whose focus is the shoulder. Crafted with DK yarn at a worsted gauge, Paulette is super lightweight, making it ideal for transitional weather. The shoulder details add a rewarding challenge, requiring some concentration at the start but yielding beautiful results. Once the yoke is complete, the rest of the sweater knits up quickly and easily.

Paulette is a top down pullover. The shoulder saddles are knit first and then the stitches are put on hold. The fronts and backs are picked up from the edges of the shoulder saddle, and the sleeves are knit across the saddle stitches previously put on hold. Short rows are used to complete the shoulder shaping for the front and back. The yoke is knit flat until the front neckline is joined, and then worked in the round for the rest of the pullover. The sleeve stitches are put on hold while the underarm stitches are cast on. The body is continued in the round down to just before the hem, where a round of eyelets accent the transition from body to hem. The sleeves are taken off of hold, and knit from the underarm down to the cuff. The collar is picked up from the neckline edge.

The suggested yarns are both Sport/ DK yarns that knit up well at a worsted weight gauge. If looking for a yarn substitute, it is recommended that you look for yarns that are normally knit up at a gauge of about 22 sts /4” (10 cm) rather than using a worsted weight yarn.
