Pavillion Socks
Based on the Pavilion pattern in Barbara G. Walker’s “A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns”, this pattern offers a simple geometric pattern suited for both men and women.
The pattern is composed entirely of knit and purl stitches, making this an easy sock for all skill levels. Beginners will find the pattern easy to follow, while more experienced knitters should find that it holds enough variety to keep things interesting.
The pattern itself is an 18 st repeat made up of 36 rows. Both charted and written instructions are provided.
Three different sizes are provided, with cast ons of 57, 64, and 72 stitches, providing leg circumferences of approximately 8”, 8.5” and 10.5”. The gauge, based on light fingering weight yarn, is 36sts/4” in stocking stitch; blocked.
Sample socks in the Small & Medium sizes required approximately 280-300 yards for a pair of socks, while the Large sample, knit in Opal Uni required 388 yds. It is recommended that you use a yarn that is of similar yardage as the recommended yarn or achieve the same gauge. Using a thicker sock yarn may result in oversize socks.
Many thanks to my test knitters for their knitting skills, corrections and suggestions, especially for contributing a 64 st version of the pattern.
