PAW Cap
The PAW Cap pattern was commissioned for Penistone Arts Week 2022 and celebrates the town’s long history of wool working. The design was inspired by three symbols of Penistone: the 29-arch viaduct over the River Don, Penistone’s historic horned sheep, and the martlet birds that feature on the town crest.
The PAW Cap is worked in the round from undyed shades of DK-weight yarn. The sample shown uses two 50g balls of contrasting shades of Whitefaced Woodland yarn from Gam Farm near Grassington. Whitefaced Woodland is the modern breed name for the original Penistone Sheep, first developed over four hundred years ago.
