Pawsitive knits asks knitters, crocheters and crafters to create cat toys for the Dublin SPCA as we head into kitten season. Do you love knitting? Do you love animals? Then Pawsitive knits is for you!

This mouse is knitted with a small amount of Aran or Worsted weight yarn (approximately 20 yards for the body) and 3.25mm or 3.5mm needles. The tight fabric this creates should put up well to being carried around the place as well as rough kittenplay. There are no potentially harmful objects on this toy, and the mouse features a knitted-on icord tail.

Materials

Yarn: You can use any leftover yarn that you have lying around the house, just be sure to use smaller needles than you normally would for that weight yarn to give a nice tight fabric. A thinner yarn will produce a smaller mouse.

Stuffing: You can stuff the mouse with anything you have to hand, scraps of yarn, the stuffing from an old teddy bear or pillow, old socks shredded up.

Catnip: Dried catnip leaves can be found in most pet shops. Cats and kittens go crazy for catnip. Adding a small amount of catnip is totally optional.

Bell: Again, totally optional, you can get small cat bells online to add to the toys.

Other materials: Knitting needles (double pointed for knitting in the round, straight needles for knitting flat) and a tapestry needle.
