Peace Poppy (simple version)
This is a simplified version of the pattern I use to make these poppies. I wrote it for the kids at the Arts & Crafts area at the weekly Palestinian solidarity demos in my local city. It includes diagrams on how to sew the petals together and add the centre & ties. It’s in garter-stitch with simple increases and decreases so is suitable for a beginner knitter.
I used DK acrylic yarn and 4mm needles. With cotton DK I needed to go down to 3.75mm to get a firm enough fabric: 3.5mm would probably be better. You can use any weight of yarn you like, with an appropriate needle size, to make a bigger or smaller flower.
I will be transitioning to all-natural materials once my stash of acrylic is used up and I encourage you to do the same.
