This gorgeous shrug features the peacock stitch which gives it its old-world lacey look. The shape of the shrug is inspired by the simplicity of Saori clothing weaving and sewing techniques, drawing from the Saori Margeurite Jacket. The size can be adjusted either by adding/removing repeats of the pattern, or simply by rolling the ‘collar’ when the jacket is on to shorten the sleeves to length you want. This pattern is made with fingering weight yarn and is particularly suited to colour-change cake yarns such as Scheepjes Whirl or Garnmanufaktur Lola. The written pattern and peacock stitch chart are provided. Careful attention has to be paid to your stitch counts and placement so this is really a pattern for an experienced hooker.

The gauge given here is a rough approximation as every row and column varies due to the nature of the peacock stitch. The more accurate way to gauge this is by pattern repeat. One repeat across (columns) is approximately 12.5cm and one pattern repeat vertically (rows) is approximately 16cm. That said, the gauge isn’t very important with this piece.

For the green ombre version in the photos and in the pattern, I used two Scheepjes ombre Whirls, reversing the colour order in the middle. The more colourful version which was made by one of my wonderful testers, Colleen, used Garnmanufaktur McLana Bobbel. Garnmanufaktur Lola would also work very well. This shrug must be made with fingereing weight yarn as anything heavier won’t drape or fit correctly.
