Peak Cardigan
A classic cardigan in a mosaic knitted zig-zag pattern. Across the back of the shoulders, the pattern is broken by a solid coloured line.
Mosaic knitting is an easy way to knit a multi-coloured pattern, as you only work with one colour at a time. It is therefore also very suitable for a cardigan that is worked back and forth on the body.
The cardigan is worked top-down. Stitches are cast on for the back with a provisional cast-on. A piece of solid colour is worked and short rows are made, while the pattern is established in mosaic knitting.
You will work according to charts throughout the pattern. The start-up is also described in detail - instructing you on how to read the charts.
After the short rows, continue in mosaic knitting on the back piece, while making increases at the armholes. The back piece is set to rest. Part of the stitches from the provisional cast-on are transfered to the needle to work the right shoulder, the left shoulder and then down the front pieces. Increases are made along the armholes and the front edge. The two front pieces are joined with the back piece and the body is worked back and forth in mosaic knitting. It is finished with a rib edge at the bottom.
Stitches are picked up along the armholes and the sleeves are worked one at a time. Decreases are made on the inside of the sleeves.
Finally, stitches are picked up along the front edge, and the remaining stitches from the provisional cast-on at the neck are placed on the needle. A rib edge with buttonholes is worked.
