Peak Hat
This hat pattern was created to show off yarns in both stockinette and textured knits. The peak motif is inspired by the lovely Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Size: one size
Finished measurements: 21.5in/54.5cm circumference, 7.5in/19cm tall
Yarn: 100 yards/91.5 meters sport weight yarn (3ply, 12 WPI)
1 set of US 8 (5mm) circular or double pointed needles for working in the round
This pattern was designed to support a spinning experiment: what happens when you use the same fiber and the same spinning style (woolen long draw) on the same wheel with the same ply structure (3), with two different fiber preps? The results are pretty fun! The hat with more of a striped coloration to it was spun using combed top, split lengthwise in fourths and spun end to end. The hat with more of a blended look was made from that same fiber, run through a drum carder before spinning.
In both cases the fiber is Spunky Eclectic Targhee top in the “Tobacco Leaf” colorway.
